Ahmedabad: Around 5kg of gold in the form of dust inside plastic plates was seized at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport on Wednesday.
The seized gold is worth about Rs 33.9 crore, with the price of gold being Rs 67,800 per 10g in the Ahmedabad market on Wednesday.
Officials of the air intelligence unit (AIU) of Ahmedabad Customs said the gold came from abroad but refused to divulge any more details.
“Suspicion led the officials to break the plastic plates, and they found shiny gold particles in them. Based on the analysis of passengers’ travel history, suspicious behaviour and movement, the officials intercept them and conduct a search,” said a source privy to the development.
