
Smuggled cigarettes worth lakhs seized in Mizoram
AIZAWL: In yet another success in the crusade against smuggling activities, a joint operation of the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles — under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) — and the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai seized 53 cases and 45 packets of foreign-origin cigarettes from the Chhungte area in Mizoram on April 29.They also detained a person in this regard.
The approximate market value of the sized items is Rs 70, 07,000. The operation was carried out based on specific information.
The ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border.
The Assam Rifles, also christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram, stated a release.
