Duo nabbed with smuggled items worth RM200,000
PASIR MAS: The General Operations Force (GOF) nabbed two men for smuggling imitation jeans, women’s handbags and sandals worth more than RM200,000 last night.
The lorry driver and his attendant were arrested at the Tasik Raja wet market here.
GOF Seventh Battalion commanding officer Superintendent AzhariNusi said the GOF members were on their routine rounds at the area when they spotted the lorry about 7.30pm.
They directed the lorry driver to stop the vehicle and upon checking, the GOF found several boxes containing the jeans, handbags and sandals.
“They later detained the 29-year-old and his 35-year-old assistant,” he said in a statement.
Azhari said initial investigations showed that the items were smuggled from Thailand via an illegal jetty at the border.
“We suspect the smuggled items will be distributed to suppliers in Kota Baru areas,” he said.
He added that both men also admitted that they were paid RM1,800 to send the goods to their destination.
