Patna: The Customs officials on Monday seized around 9,000 kilograms of Chinese apples worth Rs 16.2 lakh near Lalganj in Vaishali district. According to a press release by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the truck was seized, but the driver and the smuggler managed to escape.
“Customs (Prevention) Headquarters, Patna, received a secret tip-off that smugglers had planned to transport a large consignment of Chinese apples from Nepal to Ranchi via the border areas of Bihar, using the Paharpur-Lalganj route.
Based on this information, customs officials pursued and intercepted a truck near the Lalganj-Paharpur road on Friday, seizing the illegally transported Chinese apples. The seized apples weigh approximately 9,000 kilograms, with an estimated value of around Rs 16.20 lakh, while the estimated value of the seized truck is Rs 20.80 lakh. The total estimated value of the seizure is Rs 37 lakh,” states the release.
