Mumbai: Customs officials at the city’s international airport busted a gold smuggling racket and arrested two brothers for allegedly smuggling 3 kg of gold worth Rs 2.10 crore in connivance with a head hawaldar of the Customs department.
All three have been arrested. The arrested are Manish Valeecha, his brother Mukesh, residents of Ulhasnagar. The arrested head hawaldar has been identified as Suresh Kadam. The brothers who arrived from Dubai claimed they had no dutiable goods, but later admitted they had three pouches with gold given to the Customs hawaldar in the washroom.
