MUMBAI: A special court recently refused to grant bail to a 32-year-old actor arrested last year in connection with fake currency racket related to counterfeit notes of Rs 7 crore.
Rejecting the plea of Sumit alias Sam Yaspal, the judge said that evidence clearly demonstrates that all seven accused were part of a conspiracy and engaged in illegal activities of manufacturing and trafficking counterfeit currency notes.
The court also said that a large quantity of currency notes was seized from these accused. “This court is of the view that the accused has not made out a case for grant of bail, as his complicity is found in serious offence against the nation, affecting economy of nation,” the judge said. They had hatched the conspiracy to manufacture and traffic counterfeit currency notes and circulate the same in the market.
The prosecution had opposed the bail plea submitting that a large quantity of counterfeit currency notes were seized from him and his associates.
