Fake Apple AirPods worth $7.16 million seized by US Customs and Border Protection
U. S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Cincinnati have seized three large shipments from China that contained fake Apple AirPods which are estimated to be worth around $7.16 million.
A total of 36,000 fake AirPods have been seized, each shipment containing 12,000 units. Although each package had a declared value of $5,280, the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price for all the AirPods would have been $7.16 million had they been genuine.
In the official statement released by the US CBP, it says that after consulting with an import specialist from CBP’s Center of Excellence and Expertise, the items were found to be in violation of CBP trademark and copyright codes and were seized on May 11 and 13.
It goes on to explain that Apple has configuration trademarks on their AirPods and has recorded those trademarks with CBP. It also adds that a company does not have to put the “Apple” wordmark or design on their products to violate these trademarks. In this instance, further inspection of the earbuds revealed that their shape and design replicated the protected Apple configuration.

1.80 kg of gold seized at Chennai airport; two arrested
CHENNAI: Customs officials at Chennai international airport have seized 1.8 kg of gold, worth Rs 89.2 lakh, and arrested two men. According to a release on Sunday, a special watch was kept based on intelligence that gold was likely to be smuggled by a passenger arriving from Dubai in an Emirates flight (EK-544).
A passenger who appeared to be in a hurry was intercepted at the green channel exit by an alert officer. When questioned, he appeared to be nervous and gave evasive replies. He was identified as Mohammed Ashraf, 21, of Chennai. When searched, two crepe bandages were found tied to the shins of his legs.
On taking them off, gauze bandage was found wrapped and stuck by a duct tape. When it was removed, two paper packets were recovered, one from each leg. Both packets were unusually heavy and weighed 2.07 kg and were found to contain gold paste. On extraction, 1.80 kg gold of 24 k purity valued at Rs. 89.17 lakh was recovered and seized under the Customs Act.
When questioned further, the passenger informed that he was to hand over gold packets to an unknown person outside the airport. He was taken outside the airport to nab the receiver. After sometime, a man who approached him to receive gold was nabbed. He has been identified as one Mohamed Ibr ahim, 39, of Chennai. Both the carrier and the receiver have been arrested.

Three held for ‘smuggling’liquor from Karnataka
The police on Friday arrested three youth and seized 960 liquor bottles, a car and a two-wheeler, all worth over ₹5 lakh, at an isolated shed at Tavanampalle mandal headquarters, 20 km from here.
According to the police, the accused, identified as Arun Kumar, Delhi Prasad and Yugandhar, residents of Tavanamaplle, allegedly used to smuggle liquor bottles from Karnataka.
Acting on a tip-off, a special party raided the shed and seized the liquor bottles, and the vehicles, besides arresting the trio. The accused were sent for remand.

24 seized Remdesivir injections found fake
The 24 Remdesivir injections, which were recovered by the Ambala Police last month, have been found to be fake.
As per the Health Department, the injections were sent to the company for verification and it confirmed that the vials were fake.
Civil Surgeon Ambala Dr Kuldeep Singh said, “The police had recovered 24 injections of Remdesivir last month and the sample was sent to the company. The injections were fake. The matter is being investigated.”
On April 21, police officials on curfew duty checked two vehicles. During checking, they seized 24 injections of “Hetero Remdesivir” from one of the cars.
The four men failed to produce any bill or give any satisfactory reply regarding the injections.
The accused claimed that they had arranged the injections for a Covid patient in Delhi. However, the police suspected that they had procured the injections for sale. The investigation was handed over to the CIA-2.
Last week, the CIA-2 unit arrested Gaurav, a resident of Yamunanagar, who had supplied the injections. The 24 injections were sold for Rs 1.20 lakh.

6 arrested for black marketing of Remdesivir in Madhya Pradesh
In another case, three people were arrested the same day in Shahdol including a nurse and two lab technicians of a medical college for black marketing of Remdesivir.
Amid rising cases of Covid-19, several cases of black marketing of Remdesivir were reported from Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, Chhindwara amd Shahdol on Tuesday.
Three persons, including a nurse, were arrested on Tuesday for black marketing of Remdesivir in Chhindwara and five injections were seized from them, said the police.
“We have arrested three including a nurse. We have seized five Remdesivir injections from their possession. Investigation on,” said Police inspector Manish Bhadoria.
In another case, three people were arrested the same day in Shahdol including a nurse and two lab technicians of a medical college for black marketing of Remdesivir.
Shahdol Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mukesh Vaishya informed, “We also arrested a pharmacy store owner. Six injections, mobile phones and over ₹6 lakhs cash recovered from their possession.”

Gold smuggling case: Police rope in Interpol
Police have widened investigations into the smuggling of 23 gold pieces worth US$783 000 by a Zimbabwean who was arrested in South Africa, and are waiting for a detailed report from Interpol officials based in Pretoria, which will be critical in assisting their inquiry.
This comes as Parliament has summoned Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister, Kazembe Kazembe, to give a ministerial statement on the security situation at the country’s ports of entry and exit following a surge in cases of smuggling which are prejudicing the country of millions of dollars.
Minister Kazembe was directed to issue the statement by Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda after a request by Dzivaresekwa legislator, Mr Edwin Mushoriwa.
A suspect, Tashinga Nyasha Masinire (33), was found in possession of 23 pieces of gold allegedly smuggled from Zimbabwe.

Fake sanitiser unit busted in Agra, 2 held
AGRA: A fake sanitiser manufacturing unit was busted here and two people running it were arrested, police said on Tuesday.
A joint team of Covid anti-black marketing squad and SWAT team raided the factory in Katra Wazir Khan area of the Itmad-ud-Daulah locality and seized 2,500 litres of fake sanitiser, they said.
Police also confiscated cleaning products like hand wash, toilet cleaner, dish wash, glass cleaner and floor cleaner from the factory.
Agra Superintendent of Police (SP) Botre Rohan Pramod said a complaint regarding the factory was received on the helpline number generated to control the black marketing of the Covid drugs, oxygen cylinders and other items.

Indore: Fake injections are being sold in the name of Remdesivir injection during the corona period in Madhya Pradesh. Such a gang has fooled so many people so far. As per the information received, fake injections have been sold to 1200 people across the state so far. Police have so far reached only 3 families whose families have died after being injected. Meanwhile, police are now preparing a list of families who have been given these fake injections and their families have died.
Meanwhile, most surprisingly, many private hospitals have also purchased these injections. According to a website, 700 injections have been sold in Indore and 500 in Jabalpur in the state. As part of the information received, Sunil Mishra, Dinesh Bansilal Chaudhary, and Dhiraj Sajnani, masterminds of the gang selling fake Remdesivir injections, had sold the fake injections to the needy through social media. The gang reportedly used to sell the injection to the needy through social media. He used to charge a hefty sum of Rs.35,000/- in the name of a fake injection.
Police have now detained 5 more persons of the gang. According to police, several social workers are among the accused. Police are currently working to seize fake injections across the state. Last Monday, the crime branch seized 100 fake Remdesivirs from village Satwas in Dewas district late last night. As part of the information received, the police were aware of this by a broker named Chiku.

Chennai: 2.5 kg gold granules hidden in juice powder mix seized by Air Customs
Air Customs officials in the city maintained a tight vigil based on the intelligence of gold smuggling via parcels at the Foreign Post office. A postal parcel from Dubai, which was declared to contain seeds from was intercepted on suspicion of containing gold.
The parcel which was consigned to a Chennai-based person was cut open and examined. According to officials, it contained four containers of a branded Instant Orange juice mix, along with packets of oats and chocolates. However, the containers were cut open and examined as they were found to be unusually heavy.
The containers had their original aluminium foil lids, but its contents were a mixture of gold granules and juice mix powder. 2.5kg of gold granules worth Rs.1.20cr were recovered and seized under Customs Act. Searches carried out at the recipient address revealed that the address was misused, the role of postal staff is being probed, said officials. This method of smuggling via granules is said to be a new modus operandi that has been foiled.

Fake remdesivir racket ‘main conspirator’ brought to Ahmedabad
According to police, on April 28, the DCB Ahmedabad arrested seven persons and seized as many as 133 duplicate vials of remdesivir which the accused were trying to sell in black market.
Days after the Ahmedabad Police Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) arrested seven persons for allegedly selling duplicate remdesivir vials to needy patients in Ahmedabad, the alleged conspirator of the racket, Vivek Maheshwari, was brought from Vadodara jail to Ahmedabad on transfer warrant on Thursday.
According to police, on April 28, the DCB Ahmedabad arrested seven persons and seized as many as 133 duplicate vials of remdesivir which the accused were trying to sell in black market. Further investigation into the case revealed that the accused had purchased from pharmaceutical companies in bulk 2,880 injections of ceftriaxone sulbactam and 2,204 injections of piperacillin tazobactam (both antibiotics) after which the accused pasted duplicate stickers of pharmaceutical giants Jubliant (Jubi-R) and Hetero on the meds, trying to pass them off as remdesivir.
Police investigation also revealed that the accused group had already managed to sell off 1000 fake vials of remdesivir in the black market and cash worth Rs 21.04 lakh was recovered from them which they had procured by selling the fake drugs.
