Tiruchi: A Tiruchi City police team seized 240 kilograms of banned tobacco substances that were being smuggled in a car, early on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.

The police team was carrying out vehicle checks near SIT junction when they stopped a car and checked the vehicle. They found 27 gunny bags containing banned tobacco substances inside the vehicle and confiscated the contraband. Two persons V. Selvakumar (26) of Thottiyam in Tiruchi district and P. Srinath (39) of Pattukottai in Thanjavur district, who had smuggled the contraband in the car, were arrested.The value of the seized contraband was put at ₹4 lakh, a police press release said.

Bengaluru: Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have seized fake branded dress materials, which were being sold as original, worth 1.38 crores from a shop in Bengaluru and have arrested the proprietor on Tuesday.

The accused is identified as Narasimharaju (38) who had his shop at the BEML layout which falls under Rajarajeshwari Nagar police station limits. The shop was stocked with fakes of all major brands including Nike, Puma, Tommy Hilfiger, Under Armour and Zara. The customers were made to believe that they were purchasing original items.

AUTHORITIES have seized a shipment of smuggled cigarettes declared as dried fish in Jolo, Sulu, the police said Saturday, June 29, 2024.

The Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) said the shipment was seized around 12 p.m. Friday, June 28, aboard a commercial ferry docked at the port of Jolo.

The PRO-BAR said seized by policemen were 650 reams of smuggled cigarettes with an estimated market value of P744,900.
Investigation showed that an unidentified person had left the five boxes with the ship’s checker, declaring it as dried fish for shipment to Zamboanga City.

Chattogram Custom House and Customs Intelligence seized a container of cigarettes on Thursday midnight, which was imported under false declaration.

The container was imported from Thailand, declaring it as water purifiers from Thailand, said Md Saifur Rahman, joint director of Customs Intelligence Department, Chattogram office.

He told The Daily Star the amount of the seized cigarettes of Mond brand is approximately 50 lakh, worth Tk 5 crore.
“The actual amount will be determined after the completion of inventory,” he said.The tax rate hovers 25 percent for water purification machine, which can go as high as 600-650 percent in case of cigarettes, customs officials said.

Officers from Leamington Spa Safer Neighbourhood Team conducted a joint operation with Warwickshire Trading Standards at Clemens Mini Market on Wednesday, over concerns about products for sale there.

A police spokesperson said: “Inside a large stash of illegal cigarettes, vapes and rolling tobacco was found concealed within the premises. Further illegal products were also found in a vehicle parked nearby.

“In total over 20,000 cigarettes were seized, 7.15kg of tobacco and 73 vapes were seized. The value of these products had they been legal is approximately £20,475.

Biswanath: Assam Police was able to arrest a woman and recover Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) from her possession. She was found carrying notes of denomination more than Rs 3.5 lakhs when she was arrested. The seized counterfeit notes, all in Rs 500 denominations, were discovered in a bag she had brought from Nagaon. Currently, the police are conducting further interrogations with Minara Begum regarding the seized currency.

Hong Kong customs has seized counterfeit products worth HK$52 million (US$6.7 million), including more than 6,000 fake Uefa Euro 2024 and Copa America football jerseys, in a three-week operation.

Acting Senior Superintendent Tammy Tam Pui-ying of customs’ intellectual property investigation bureau said on Wednesday an investigation revealed the shirts were destined for America, Europe and the Middle East. The items, which could fetch as much as HK$2.4 million if sold in those regions, included counterfeit England and France jerseys.

Customs officers also arrested two people and seized an additional 31 counterfeit jerseys during raids on two online stores.

Pune: Maharashtra Excise Department has taken a massive action in Pune along with the city police where it conducted investigation in L3 pub and found out huge storage of illegal liquor, around 241 litres of foreign liquor and others amounting to 3 lakhs, which were all later seized. GUWAHATI: An East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team of the Guwahati Police seized Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) worth over 234 lakh and arrested two suspects in connection with the seizure.

A team from Dispur Police Station (PS) seized the large cache and arrested the suspects, Hiramul Islam (24) from Bihpuria and Nazirul Islam (19) from Laluk, who were traveling in a vehicle when they were intercepted. Upon inspection, the police discovered FICN amounting to 234,09,000, all in ₹500 denominations.
