MP: Police nab fake Remdesivir sellers
Indore: Fake injections are being sold in the name of Remdesivir injection during the corona period in Madhya Pradesh. Such a gang has fooled so many people so far. As per the information received, fake injections have been sold to 1200 people across the state so far. Police have so far reached only 3 families whose families have died after being injected. Meanwhile, police are now preparing a list of families who have been given these fake injections and their families have died.
Meanwhile, most surprisingly, many private hospitals have also purchased these injections. According to a website, 700 injections have been sold in Indore and 500 in Jabalpur in the state. As part of the information received, Sunil Mishra, Dinesh Bansilal Chaudhary, and Dhiraj Sajnani, masterminds of the gang selling fake Remdesivir injections, had sold the fake injections to the needy through social media. The gang reportedly used to sell the injection to the needy through social media. He used to charge a hefty sum of Rs.35,000/- in the name of a fake injection.
Police have now detained 5 more persons of the gang. According to police, several social workers are among the accused. Police are currently working to seize fake injections across the state. Last Monday, the crime branch seized 100 fake Remdesivirs from village Satwas in Dewas district late last night. As part of the information received, the police were aware of this by a broker named Chiku.

Air Customs officials in the city maintained a tight vigil based on the intelligence of gold smuggling via parcels at the Foreign Post office. A postal parcel from Dubai, which was declared to contain seeds from was intercepted on suspicion of containing gold.
The parcel which was consigned to a Chennai-based person was cut open and examined. According to officials, it contained four containers of a branded Instant Orange juice mix, along with packets of oats and chocolates. However, the containers were cut open and examined as they were found to be unusually heavy.
The containers had their original aluminium foil lids, but its contents were a mixture of gold granules and juice mix powder. 2.5kg of gold granules worth Rs.1.20cr were recovered and seized under Customs Act. Searches carried out at the recipient address revealed that the address was misused, the role of postal staff is being probed, said officials. This method of smuggling via granules is said to be a new modus operandi that has been foiled.

Days after the Ahmedabad Police Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) arrested seven persons for allegedly selling duplicate remdesivir vials to needy patients in Ahmedabad, the alleged conspirator of the racket, Vivek Maheshwari, was brought from Vadodara jail to Ahmedabad on transfer warrant on Thursday.
According to police, on April 28, the DCB Ahmedabad arrested seven persons and seized as many as 133 duplicate vials of remdesivir which the accused were trying to sell in black market. Further investigation into the case revealed that the accused had purchased from pharmaceutical companies in bulk 2,880 injections of ceftriaxone sulbactam and 2,204 injections of piperacillin tazobactam (both antibiotics) after which the accused pasted duplicate stickers of pharmaceutical giants Jubliant (Jubi-R) and Hetero on the meds, trying to pass them off as remdesivir.
Police investigation also revealed that the accused group had already managed to sell off 1000 fake vials of remdesivir in the black market and cash worth Rs 21.04 lakh was recovered from them which they had procured by selling the fake drugs.

As many as 621 fake Remdesivir injection vials were found dumped in the Bhakra canal near here today.
The drug, prescribed for serious cases of Covid 19, is short in supply and several cases of black marketing have been reported in the recent past.
Besides Remdesivir, hundreds of Cefoperazone injection vials were also found floating in the canal. While Remdesivir vials were packed in cartons and bore the manufacturer’s address of Telangana with Rs 5,400 per vial as MRP, the wrappers of Cefoperazone vials with “For government supply, not for sale” marking bore the manufacturer’s address of Kala Amb in Himachal Pradesh.
Ropar SSP Akhil Chaudhary said the police received information that a large number of vials were floating in the canal near Salempur village.
A police team led by the Chamkaur Sahib DSP accompanined by health officials visited the spot and seized Remdesivir and Cefoperazone vials. During search upstream at Balsanda village, more vials were recovered, he added.

CHENNAI: The Air Customs seized 570 grams gold worth Rs 27.46 lakh in two different cases from passengers who arrived from UAE, according to a release. Working on a tip off, Customs officials intercepted Ajithkumar Poomalai (22) of Perambalur, who arrived from Sharjah.
Two bundles of gold paste were recovered. On extraction 385 grams of gold valued at Rs 18.55 lakhs was recovered and seized. In another case, Noormohammed Usman (21) of Chennai who arrived from Dubai was intercepted and on searching, one bundle of gold paste was recovered. On extraction 185 grams of gold valued at Rs 8.91 lakhs was recovered and seized.

AIZAWL: In yet another success in the crusade against smuggling activities, a joint operation of the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles — under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) — and the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai seized 53 cases and 45 packets of foreign-origin cigarettes from the Chhungte area in Mizoram on April 29.They also detained a person in this regard.
The approximate market value of the sized items is Rs 70, 07,000. The operation was carried out based on specific information.
The ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border.
The Assam Rifles, also christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram, stated a release.
Four held for smuggling liquor from Telangana
Officials of the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) and the police seized 1,000 liquor bottles being transported illegally in a car from Telangana, and arrested four persons, at the Anasagaram checkpost on Friday.
The accused had reportedly concealed the liquor stocks inside the vehicle doors and the seats. The Non-Duty Paid Liquor (NDPL) was seized during regular vehicle checking at the Anasagaram checkpost on the A.P.-Telangana border, officials said.
SEB ASP Vakul Jindal said that the liquor bottles along with the vehicle was seized. The liquor was being transported from Suryapet district to Nandigama. An investigation is on, the ASP said.

Seven people were arrested for running a fake Remdesivir injection manufacturing unit in Kotdwar in Uttarakhand. The accused were arrested after the Delhi Police conducted raids in Kotdwar, Roorkee and Haridwar.
Police also recovered 196 fake “ready to sell fake Remdesivir injections” and 3,000 empty vials from the spot. Moreover, police found the accused have already sold 2,000 fake Remdesivir injections.
The accused used to sell fake Remdesivir injection for Rs 25,000, police said. Delhi Police Commissioner SN Shrivastava took to Twitter to inform about the incident.
“In all 196 ready to sell fake Remdesivir injections were seized. From the premises, packing machines, 3000 empty vials for packing Ramdesivir were recovered. Accused further disclosed that he already sold 2,000 fake Remdesivir injections to desperate people,” SN Shrivastava said in a tweet on Friday.
A team of police has been formed to gather information about those who have been given these fake injections.

A team of customs officials headed by assistant commissioner of customs Y B Sahare apprehended the passenger after he landed at Goa International Airport aboard IndiGo flight 6E 6913.
Aside from the gold, officials also found four different Aadhaar cards with different names with the passenger. “The investigation so far has revealed that smuggled gold was brought by an international passenger from Dubai to Kochi airport and was purposely left in the flight with knowledge that the same aircraft would fly from Kochi to Hyderabad and on to Goa,” said commisioner of Goa customs Mihir Ranjan.
The West Bengal resident picked up the gold blocks at Hyderabad and flew to Goa. He was apprehended by Goa Customs with assistance from a directorate of revenue intelligence officer. Earlier in January, customs sleuths had foiled a similar attempt to smuggle gold with a Kolkata resident being detained at Dabolim.

Hyderabad, April 29 (IANS) Customs officials at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here on Thursday seized 2.7 kg gold from a passenger who arrived from Dubai.
The passenger had concealed the 24-carat gold bar, valued at Rs 1.36 crore, in a pasta making machine.
The Customs Department booked the passenger for smuggling of gold and said further investigations are in progress.
Last week, 386 grams of gold was seized from a passenger who had arrived from Dubai.
According to officials, the gold in paste form was concealed in the inner layers of specially-designed T-shirt. A total of 386 gms of gold valued at Rs 19.1 lakh was recovered and seized.
Customs filed a case of smuggling against the accused.
