COVID-19: Four arrested in Maharashtra for selling liquid paracetamol in empty Remdesivir bottles
Mumbai: Maharashtra’s Baramati police busted a gang and arrested four people for selling liquid paracetamol in empty vials of Remedisvir for which they charged around Rs 35000.
The demand for anti-viral drug Remdesivir is high as the number of covoronavirus cases has risen in Maharashtra. The black marketing operations of counterfeit medicines is at full swing while artificial injections are also being sold.
Police arrested four members of a gang from Maharashtra’s Baramati. One of these members worked at Baramati’s COVID Care Center.
This person would pick the empty vials of Remedesvir from there. Later, the vial would be filled with liquid paracetamol and sealed. Then these artificial Remediesvir injections were sold to the needy for Rs 35000.
The police have arrested four members of this gang named Prashant Gharak, Shankar Pise, Dilip Gaikwad and Sandeep Gaikwad.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), in a joint operation with the Customs, arrested a senior cabin crew of Spice Jet allegedly for smuggling gold worth ₹1.07 crore at the Kochi airport on Friday. The arrested was identified as Manhas Abulaise of Palakkad.
It is learnt that the accused was serving as a cabin crew of Spice Jet flight SG 147 that arrived at the Kochi airport from Ras al Khaimah in the UAE in the afternoon. The gold in compound form in five packets was reportedly found concealed in his body. He was arrested following a tip-off. The gold in compound form weighed 2.55 kg and, eventually, 2.20 kg of it was extracted.
The accused reportedly confessed to his involvement in similar smuggling attempts before. The DRI continued to interrogate him and the accused would be produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Economic Offences) on Saturday.
The agency said it suspected that smugglers were luring cabin crew to overcome the pandemic blues in the wake of substantial drop in international flights and passengers. An investigation was on to find out whether more flight crews were involved in such smuggling attempts.

Jharsuguda: The Brajrajnagar Police on Tuseday seized counterfeit currency notes with face value of Rs. 57 thousand from a Railway employee in Jharsuguda district of Odisha. He has been arrested.
As per reports, Police seized 114 pieces of counterfeit currency note of Rs. 500 denominations each from Raman Kumar Rajak. He works at Brajrajnagar Railway Station. He has been forwarded to the Court.
During preliminary investigation Police came to know that the fake currency notes are being smuggled from Nagpur and these are sent to Jharsuguda through Bilaspur, Jharsuguda SP intimated.

Tinsukia: The police on Monday seized fake Indian currency notes amounting to over Rs 26 lakh and arrested three persons, including a woman, from Chabua in Assam‘s Dibrugarh district.
The accused have been identified as Swarnlata Chakraborty, a resident of Tinsukia; Utpal Saikia, a resident of Bordumsa in Tinsukia district; and Bipul Gohain, a resident of Khowang in Dibrugarh.
Speaking with East Mojo, Chabua police station officer-in-charge Tulumoni Dwora said: “Based on specific inputs, we intercepted a bus and a motorcycle coming from Tinsukia and recovered fake Indian currency notes amounting to Rs 2.34 lakh in the denomination of Rs 200 and Rs 500 from the possession of three persons.”
“The trio were on the way to deliver the notes ahead of the festive season,” the official added. The motorcycle used by the accused has been seized by the police.

The police seized 700 boxes of country liquor, transported illegally in a truck (HP-64-A-3007), at Parwanoo, which was heading for Solan and Shimla from KM Distillery.
DSP Yogesh Rolta said driver Tikka Ram of Barog and co-driver Devinder Kumar of Jubbar village could not produce any permit issued by the Excise officials. According to the driver, distillery manager Manohar Lal had got these loaded in the truck.
A case under the Excise Act has been registered and further probe is under way.
A team of excise officials led by Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Pawar rushed to the distillery to examine the stock. Pawar said a report would be prepared after a thorough examination of the record.

GUWAHATI: Assam’s excise department has seized over 16 lakh litres of illegal liquor worth over Rs 39 crore during the just-concluded assembly elections in the state.
An official source said the volume of the seized liquour in this election is 15 times more than the seizure in the previous assembly election in 2016.
With the apprehension of clandestine inflow of liquor into Assam from neighbouring states such as Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya, the excise department of Assam launched a strict vigil to control and check the inflow of illegal liquor and country liquor through interstate and international border ahead of the ensuing assembly elections.
“The strict enforcement of the excise laws by the department of excise in Assam, led to a seizure of at least 16,38,336 litres of illegal liquor, which is 15 times higher as compared to previous general assembly elections. The total quantity of illegal liquor seized during 2016 assembly elections was around 1,06,028 litres,” the source said.
The seizure this time includes 14,43,732 litres of illicit distilled liquor, 1,83,423 litres of IMFL and beer, 1,900 litres of country liquor, 5,634 kg of nolasses, 3,598 litres of distillation apparatus, 25 vehicle and 23 kg of ganja.

Gurugram (Haryana) [India], April 9 (ANI): One person was arrested in Gurgaon on Friday after a unit in Gurugram manufacturing fake products was raided. Several fake products were also recovered from the unit.
As per a statement, the raid was conducted after a complaint was received regarding the manufacturing of duplicate Minda Industries Ltd products being manufactured from an employee of Brand Protection with Nucleion Risk Consulting Pvt. Ltd. 18, Gurugram, an authorized representative of Minda Industries.
“After verification, a raid was conducted at the second floor of a building in Sultan Puri where one person was found working on a Moulding machine. His identity was revealed as Satrughan Singh,” the statement said, adding that he was caught red-handed manufacturing filters of UNO MINDA & MINDA (HONDA TWO WHEELERS) without any authorisation.
Products recovered from the raid include – 540 pieces of KVT air filter 3G, 640 pieces of mestro air filter, 979 pieces of air filter cap, one moulding machine and one dye. A case has been registered at the Sultan Puri Police Station in Delhi.

Lear More5 held with illicit liquor worth Rs 25 lakh in Gr Noida ahead of panchayat polls.
The Uttar Pradesh Police”s Special Task Force (STF) on Friday said it has seized illicit liquor worth Rs 25 lakh and arrested five people who were allegedly smuggling it in a truck from Haryana to Greater Noida ahead of the panchayat polls.
The suspects were held in the Dadri police station area by the Noida unit of the STF along with the local police following a tip-off, the agency said.
“There were 319 cartons of liquor in the canter truck which was intercepted near the NTPC cut in Dadri. This liquor was being brought from Haryana and supposed to be consumed in the poll-bound region with an objective to influence the elections,” the STF said in a statement.
In a separate statement, the Gautam Buddh Nagar police said the cost of the seized liquor is estimated to be around Rs 25 lakh.
Apart from the truck, the police said they also impounded a hatchback from the accused persons, who have been identified as Qasim, Saddam, Rakesh Chandela, Rajendra and Gaurav.
Additional Superintendent of Police, STF, Raj Kumar Mishra said the accused had made a secret cavity in their truck and hid the liquor in it.

Customs agents have seized more than $1 million in counterfeit currency so far this year at O’Hare International Airport.
The fake cash and coins were seized in more than 100 different shipments that went through O’Hare, which processes about 20% of all international mail entering the U.S., according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Criminal groups sometimes ship counterfeit money by hiding the cash in parcels, but customs agents use technology to find and seize the currency, the agency said.
“It is a lucrative business which is often used to finance illegal activities such as trafficking in human beings and drugs, and even terrorism.” Shane Campbell, Area Port Director-Chicago, said in a statement.
Through the end of March, officers at O’Hare seized 80 shipments of counterfeit currency, 24 shipments of fake silver dollars and five shipments of counterfeit foreign currency, including over $95,000 in Euros. The total value was $1.64 million.
