Belagavi: The excise department officials arrested a man who was smuggling alcohol from Goa to Karnataka. The accused has been identified as Subodh, a native of Bihar. Belagavi District excise officials inspected the vehicles entering Karnataka from Goa near Kankumbi Check Post after receiving information about smuggling. The vehicle was modified and a secret compartment was built inside the container truck to smuggle alcohol, the excise officials said.
“The vehicle was modified to smuggle the liquor. 90 cartons of blenders pride, 20 liters of blend alcohol, and caps of liquor bottles were seized. This was an illicit liquor manufacturing group. Rs 25 lakh worth of alcohol and Rs 15 lakh worth of vehicle was seized. The accused is a native of Bihar,” Y Manjunath, Deputy Commissioner, Excise Department told the media.
