‘Fakes’ worth P11.8M destroyed at Crame
Authorities on Thursday destroyed some P11.8-million worth of counterfeit goods, including copies of high-end fashion brands, a fraction of the total products confiscated during the first five months of the year worth P6.7 billion.
The activity, which employed heavy equipment that included a road roller, a backhoe, a bulldozer and an armored personnel carrier, was held by the National Committee on Intellectual Property Rights (NCIPR) at Camp Crame.
Witnesses included the representatives of companies whose products were counterfeited, including Louis Vuitton, Lacoste and WD-40, among others.

Most fake or counterfeit goods confiscated by the government in the first quarter of the year worth at least P5.3 billion were cigarettes and cigarette production equipment, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) said.
In a statement on Wednesday, IPOPHL said the value of the seized goods in the first three months of the year has already reached more than half of the total value of fake goods confiscated for the entire year in 2017, which reached P8.2 billion.
The spike this quarter – a triple-digit growth from the same period last year – was primarily attributed to the P5 billion worth of cigarettes and cigarette production paraphernalia seized by the government.
According to IPOPHL, these were mostly the products seized by the Philippine National Police from a factory in Bulacan in February.

Lear MoreP80-M worth of smuggled, fake cigarettes found in Malabon, Manila
An anti-cigarette smuggling task force uncovered smuggled and fake cigarettes worth about P80 million in Malabon and Manila last week amid higher prices of the so-called sin product due to the government’s first tax reform package, the two leading tobacco manufacturers said.
The Bureau of Internal Revenue’s “Strike Team,” led by revenue officer Remedios Advincula Jr., in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, last April 17 discovered “large” quantities of counterfeit Marlboro cigarettes at a crystal meth (shabu) factory in Barangay Santolan in Malabon, PMFTC Inc. said in a statement.
Authorities found 150 master cases of fake Marlboro cigarettes at a leased property reportedly owned by Marynor Patricio and Nova Acuna, PMFTC said, even as the tax force had yet to confiscate the goods.
Since the cigarettes are fake, they have either no tax stamps or fake tax stamps, hence depriving the government of excise tax payments.
