The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai customs arrested four Indians from Mumbai International Airport on Saturday night for allegedly smuggling 6.5 kilograms of gold worth Rs 1.87 crore.
The accused have been identified as Rakesh Kumar,33, Vijender Singh,35, Surender Singh,36 and one Dayanand,32 — all of them are residents of Haryana. While Kumar had arrived from Hong Kong by international flight, other three were going to Delhi by a domestic flight.
According to the AIU officials, they had intercepted all of them on Saturday from the airport while all of them were going to Delhi. The official said that during their personal search they found five silver coloured crude gold Kada, seven silver coloured gold pendant and 11 silver coloured gold chain from their possession. Following which the accused were booked and placed under arrest.

Man On Wheelchair Caught At Delhi Airport For Smuggling Gold.

NEW DELHI: Customs officials at Delhi airport have arrested a 68-year-old wheelchair-bound man, for smuggling gold.
The passenger was trying to smuggle into the country gold worth about Rs. 47 lakh, according to an official statement issued today.
The passenger was intercepted on his arrival from Dubai on Saturday.
“A detailed personal and baggage search of the passenger resulted in the recovery of three gold bars of foreign origin, collectively weighing 1.4 kg,” the statement said.
During investigation, the passenger also admitted to having smuggled in three kg of gold bars, valued at Rs. 83.29 lakh, during his previous visits.

The Directorate of Revenue Intellingence (DRI), Chennai Zonal Unit, arrested four persons after intercepting a three-container consignment from Dubai that contained foreign cigarettes worth ₹4.23 crore on Saturday.
The DRI officers seized the contraband based on specific intelligence that cigarettes were being smuggled by a syndicate in an import consignment of calcium carbonate.
The consignment was being imported in three 20-foot containers and landed at Kattupalli Port and was trans-shipped to a container freight station. On examination, the DRI officials found cartons concealed inside the calcium carbonate bags which contained Gudang Garam cigarettes from Indonesia. About 30.24 lakh cigarette sticks were found.

The seminar discussed the importance of increased awareness on the hazards of counterfeiting and smuggling, and the need for effective enforcement to enhance India’s economic development.
Justice (retired) NK Jain, Judge of MP High Court and Chairman, Madhya Pradesh State Consumer Redressal Commission encouraged FICCI CASCADE’s commitment and drive to curb smuggling and illicit trade in the country, however he mentioned that much more is needed to be done to change the general mind set with respect to the use of smuggled and illicit goods. Smuggling and counterfeiting goods not only hamper the economic growth of the country but also adversely affect the social fabric and the well-being of its people. He further added on the need for framing robust policies and effective implementation to curtail this menace.

Air India Airport Staff Arrested At Delhi Airport For Smuggling Gold.

Two people, including an employee of Air India SATS, have been arrested by customs officials for allegedly trying to smuggle gold into the country with a value of Rs. 17 lakh at Delhi airport, according to an official statement issued on Monday.
Air India SATS, which is a 50:50 joint venture between Air India Limited and Singapore-based SATS Limited, offers end-to-end ground handling services such as passenger and baggage handling, aircraft interior cleaning and cargo handling services among others.
A passenger was intercepted by the officials on his arrival from Bangkok on Friday.
“Further, one airport staff working for M/s Air India SATS was also intercepted, who was assisting the said passenger in smuggling,” the customs department said in the statement.
A detailed personal baggage search of the passenger and the airport staff resulted in the recovery of two gold rods crudely given shape of kada (bangle), total weighing 600 grams and having total value of Rs. 17.18 lakh, it said.

Five people have been jailed for making fake L’Oreal skin care products worth 3.25 million yuan (US$474,459), according to Shanghai No.3 Intermediate People’s Court. The five men were recruited by Zhu Jun in February 2017 to make skin care products and package them in containers printed with L’Oreal trademarks at a rented factory workshop in Pudong, the court said.
Pudong police raided the underground workshop on June 15, 2017, where they nabbed five workers and confiscated 12,612 bottles of L’Oreal men’s cleaning foam. According to L’Oreal, they were all fake. Pudong’s pricing authority said the products could have been sold at 3.25 million yuan.
On charges of counterfeiting a registered trademark, the five received jail terms ranging from 30 months to 33 months. Zhu will stand in a separate trial, the court said.

SAN PEDRO CITY, Laguna — Bureau of Customs (BOC) officials and personnel destroyed on Wednesday afternoon hundreds of boxes of fake goods worth at least PHP3 billion inside an accredited warehouse condemnation facility along Narra Road in Barangay San Antonio in this city.
BOC Auction and Cargo Disposal Division and Enforcement and Security Services (ESS), together with the authentic product brand representatives, led the destruction of the counterfeit goods inside the warehouse owned by Tritek Reverse Logistics Corp.
Mia Leaño, the Auction and Cargo disposal division head led Customs personnel in destroying the bogus products while other BOC officials destroyed the labeling machine for the fake brands with the use of a sledge hammer.
“These fake products continue to undermine the legitimate brand owners in the country that are greatly affected by the proliferation of fake items,” Leaño said.

Armed with 12 search warrants, elements of the city police and the Bureau of Customs (BOC) swooped in on several stalls before noon at the city’s main and Lagao public markets and a warehouse along Cagampang St.
The warrants, which were issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 35 Judge Oscar Noel, were for violation of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and the Intellectual Property Code.
Senior Supt. Raul Supiter, city police director, said the operations resulted in the recovery of at least 108 boxes of smuggled and fake cigarettes.
At the public markets, he said they found several stalls selling various brands of cigarettes that did not have government-issued tax stamps.

Mumbai Crime: Smuggled Goods Worth Rs 2.73 Crore Seized By DRI
Acting on a source based information, officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials found “Saffron”, “Cigarettes” and “Gold” among other items in the consignments imported through Airport Parcel Sorting Office (APSO), located near the domestic airport at Vile Parle on Wednesday.
Officials said that these consignments were declared to contain “Old Cloth” and “Food Supplements”. Detailed examination of these consignments resulted in the seizure of 145 Kgs of “Saffron”, nearly 1 lakh cigarettes of ‘Gudang Garam’ brand, computer processor chips, medicines and “Gold – 1.86 Kgs” collectively valued at Rs 2.73 crore. A case has been registered under the Customs Act, 1962 and further investigations are in progress.
In a similar incident, the Pune regional unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), 86 gold biscuits and gold in other forms, totally weighing 10.175 KG worth Rs 3.09 crores, were recovered from the lavatory at the Pune international airport on Thursday. On the basis of specific information, the DRI officials with the assistance of officers of Pune customs commissionerate made the recovery.

SIBU: Millions of ringgit worth of beer, liquor and cigarettes have been seized in Sarawak’s biggest anti-smuggling bust.
45 containers of contraband were seized from a barge which had berthed at a private jetty here by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM). 400 boxes of hard liquor were also seized from a warehouse near the jetty.
Seven crew members of the barge, aged between 20 to 45, were detained. A local was also picked up from the warehouse. They will all assist investigations into the case.
Customs director-general Datuk Seri Subromaniam Tholasy said the seizure was made during an operation at 11.30am on Sept 5 on a barge, which had berthed at the jetty in Jalan Salim-Stabau here.
The raid on the barge yielded 45 containers. 44 of them contained assorted brands of beer worth RM2.42mil (with taxes of RM11.27mil payable), he detailed at a press conference on Friday (Sept 14).
