Vietnam seizes Apple gadgets smuggled from US, gold from Thailand
20 kilos of suspected gold was hid on a flight from Bangkok to Hanoi while the Apple package was sent to Saigon via post.
Customs officers in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday said they had just seized the largest postal package of iPhones and iPads smuggled from the U.S. The shipment included 144 smartphones and tablets, most of them new and of the latest versions.
It was labeled as non-commercial package and declared to contain computer mouses and keyboards, the officers said, as cited by local media. The recipient has been identified as a resident in District 1 in the city downtown.
Also on Friday, more than 20 kilograms of what was suspected as gold from a Bangkok flight was seized at Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi.

CHENNAI: Customs officers made their biggest smuggling bust in recent times with a haul of 16.4kg of gold worth Rs 4.6 crore — brought to the city by flight from Singapore — from an employee of an airline contractor at the Chennai airport on Monday morning.
Sleuths of the Customs’ Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at airport found the contraband after stopping a tractor in which J Kumar, 31, was attempting to move three baggage trolleys from the international tarmac to the domestic terminal at the airport, an investigating officer said.
It was second case that customs had recorded of insider involvement in gold trafficking at the airport in less than a fortnight.
“The AIU men thought it was routine check but it appeared odd that there was only a single piece of baggage on the three trolleys,” the officer said. “The bag, which had arrived from Singapore on IndiGo flight 6E 054, also did not have the check-in tag from the originating airport and this flagged off a major alarm.”

Revenue seizes large quantity of smuggled alcohol.
Revenue has seized a large quantity of smuggled alcohol earlier today (Tuesday, August 22), the government agency has announced.
As a result of routine profiling, Revenue officers at Dublin Port seized over 530L of undeclared alcohol, which they found hidden in a consignment of soft drinks and snacks that had arrived into Dublin Port from Portugal.
The smuggled alcohol has a retail value of over €6,800 and which equates to a potential loss to the exchequer of over €3,500.
Yesterday (August 21), in a separate intelligence-led operation, Revenue officers in Cork carried out a search under warrant of a private premises in a town in North Cork.
Here they seized 18L of suspected counterfeit vodka. They were assisted in the operation by local Gardai, who seized suspected counterfeit clothing items. An Irish man in his 30s was questioned, according to the agency.

It said according to a CASCADE (Committee against Smuggling and Counterfeiting Destroying the Economy) study, supply of illicit goods have increased 44.4 per cent between 2012 and 2014 in sectors such as tobacco, alcoholic beverages, auto components, computer hardware and FMCG.

The accused was intercepted after his arrival from Dubai on Sunday. “His baggage search resulted in recovery of gold weighing 2.46 kg in the form of seven pieces, found concealed in a wallet and cigarette box kept in a stroller trolley bag, having market value of Rs 71.88 lakh,” a press release issued today by the customs said.
The passenger, aged 40 years, has been arrested and the gold seized, it said.

Fake designer goods worth £250k seized at market in Ingoldmells
Thousands of fake goods worth a staggering £250k have been seized at a market in Ingoldmells.
Fake designer clothes and bogus perfume were among the counterfeit haul seized at Glen Park Market earlier today. Adidas trainers, Superdry jackets, The North Face coats, Hermes bags, Chanel perfumes and watches were also among goods confiscated in a raid by Lincolnshire Trading Standards, Lincolnshire Police and the Anti-Counterfeiting Group and its members working in partnership with the market management.
Emma Milligan, principal trading standards officer at Lincolnshire County Council, commented: “By working together with the market management and the local neighbourhood policing teams to tackle these sellers, we are sending out a strong message that this behaviour will not be tolerated.”

Chinese online retailer selling luxury goods reportedly arrested on smuggling charges
The founder of an online Chinese luxury retailer has been arrested after being charged with smuggling 438 million yuan ($65.67 million) worth of goods into the country, the official China Daily reported on Monday, citing the customs authority.
Ji Wenhong, the founder of Xiu.com, an online e-commerce website that specializes in imported luxury goods, was captured in Indonesia and returned to China, where he will face trial, the newspaper said.
Ji is accused of being the head of a smuggling operation in which luxury clothing items purchased in Europe and the United States were carried into China via Hong Kong and made to look like personal possessions in order to avoid duties.

STF arrests gang member involved in liquor smuggling
An active member of an interstate gang involved in smuggling of liquor from Punjab was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) from Firozabad district.
Balkaran Singh was arrested on a tip off in Firozabad yesterday after a truck, on which liquor worth about Rs 22 lakh was being brought from Punjab was stopped by the policemen, STF said.
During interrogation Singh told STF that he had brought the consignment of liquor from Bhatinda, Punjab and had to deliver it in Shikobhad to two persons.
