Vijayawada: Special Enforcement Bureau arrested two men on charges of transporting liquor from Telangana to the state on Tuesday in Guntur. The arrested were identified as Palem Ramamohan Rao (56) and G Srinu (26). SEB said they seized bottles of liquor worth around 8.03 which was concealed under boxes of tomatoes.
12 arrested, illicit liquor worth Rs 2.85L seized
The police arrested 12 persons in connection with smuggling of illicit liquor in Faridabad and Palwal district in the last 24 hours. Liquor worth Rs 2.85 lakh has been recovered.
A spokesperson of the Faridabad police, Sube Singh, said that as many as 20 cartons containing IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) were seized from a person near Bhagat Singh Chowk here last evening. He said the accused identified as Rahul, a resident of Anangpur village, was carrying the liquor in a pick-up vehicle when he was intercepted by a police team on the basis of a tip-off. The seized liquor included brands having a market value of Rs 1.60 lakh. The accused could not produce any documents regarding the liquor possessed by him. A case under Excise Act has been registered against the accused.
Meanwhile, in a similar drive the police in Palwal district nabbed 11 persons in connection with recovery of illicit liquor in 12 different cases since Monday. Sanjay Kumar, an official of the Police Department, said that various quantities of liquor contained in bottles and quarters were recovered by the police during routine checks.

New Delhi: Five Azerbaijan nationals have been arrested by customs officials for allegedly smuggling into the country gold worth over Rs 2.4 crore at the international airport here, according to an official statement issued on Friday.
The accused persons, comprising one female passenger, were intercepted after their arrival from Dubai on April 30, the statement released by the customs department said.
“On personal search of the said passengers, gold items in the form of jewellery, wire, belt buckle and handbag handle etc, totally weighing 3.5 kg valued at Rs 2.44 crore were recovered from them,” it read.
21 kg gold, other items worth Rs 13.80 cr seized at Mumbai airport in 1 week; 9 passengers held
The Customs department has seized 20.95 kg of gold valued Rs 13.57 crore and Rs 23 lakh worth of electronics goods, tobacco items and cigarettes, all smuggled by passengers at the Mumbai international airport in the last one week, officials said on Monday.
During investigation, nine passengers who arrived at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) were arrested by the Mumbai Customs for bringing these items illegally into the country, an official said.
The action was taken by officials of the Airport Commissionerate of the Mumbai Customs between April 22 to 28 in as many as 27 cases, he said. Customs officials laid traps at the airport and detained passengers based on suspicion, he said.
Mumbai Airport Customs Seizes Smuggled Gold Worth ₹ 30 Crore In Past 28 Days
In the last 28 days, the Mumbai Airport Customs have seized smuggled gold valued at more than Rs 30 crore in multiple cases. In the last two days, gold worth Rs 1.20 crore was seized in three different cases.
According to Customs, in the first case, a woman was intercepted with two pieces of gold dust in wax form having a net weight of 505 grams valued at Rs32.94 lakh. The passenger had kept the gold dust in wax under rectum concealment, agency sources said.
In the second case on Saturday, a United States-based woman was intercepted and seven gold melted bars having a net weight of 1.173kg valued at Rs70.15 lakh had been seized. The goods were concealed in her handbag. On Saturday, a Kenyan national woman was intercepted and two gold melted bars having a net weight of 286 grams valued at Rs17.10 lakh were seized. The goods were concealed in the underwear worn by the passenger, officials said.
Massive Seizure of Smuggled Cigarettes at India Post Hub Near Guwahati Airport
Guwahati, April 29: In a significant crackdown on smuggling activities, the Customs Department intercepted a consignment of foreign-origin cigarettes valued at approximately Rs. 2.86 crore at the India Post Hub near Guwahati Airport. The operation was conducted on Sunday following a tip-off received by the Department, which led them to the India Post Hub located at Mirza in the Kamrup district of Assam. Upon inspection, officers discovered 113 packages filled with various brands of smuggled foreign-origin cigarettes.
The raid did not result in any immediate arrests, and details about the individuals involved in the smuggling operation have not been disclosed as the investigation is ongoing. The Customs Department is currently working to trace the entire network behind this elaborate smuggling effort.
“This is one of the largest seizures of smuggled cigarettes in recent times,” said a senior customs official involved in the operation. “We are seeing a disturbing trend of smugglers exploiting the postal system to transport illegal goods across the country.”

Guwahati: The anti-smuggling unit of the Guwahati Customs Division seized foreign cigarettes valued at Rs 1 crore during the night hours on Sunday from the premises of the National Postal Hub (NPH) in Kamrup district’s Mirza.
A total of 3.78 lakh cigarette sticks were smuggled from Mizoram and Nagaland. Anti-smuggling unit superintendent Abhijit Dey told the media, “We seized the items based on specific intel. The items were sent through the Indian Postal Service.”
The superintendent added that the items are repackaged upon arrival in India to conceal the brand names of the cigarettes and hidden beneath heaps of clothes to avoid detection. “These items were stored in 37 cartons and contained addresses of a pseudo recipient in Tamil Nadu. These items are often smuggled to Delhi and southern states of India via Guwahati,” the officer said.
Delhi Police Write To Car Companies After Busting Three-Member Gang Selling Fake Airbags
Delhi Police have busted a gang allegedly involved in the manufacturing and selling of counterfeit airbags. The seized airbags were of top models of 16 vehicle brands — namely MG, BMW, Citroen, Nissan, Renault, Volkswagen, Mahindra, Toyota, Tata, Honda, Skoda, Hyundai, Suzuki, Ford, KIA, and Volvo, police said, adding that they have written to the manufacturers as part of their probe.
In a raid last week at two workshops near Mata Sundari Road in Central Delhi, Police seized 921 counterfeit airbags worth approximately Rs 1.8 crore and arrested three accused. Prima facie, police found that suspects were supplying the counterfeit products to local auto workshops.
“While in an authorised workshop, an original pair of airbags replacement may cost anywhere between 1.5 lahks to 2 lahks (USD 1500 to 2000), one can easily get these from a local workshop for about half the price. These airbags were sold mostly to such roadside unauthorised workshops from where they were available for Rs 30,000 to 50,000 (USD 300 to 550),” the official said.

Gold over Rs 70 lakh hidden in passengers rectum seized at Trichy airport , 1.25 kg of gold found in Chennai airport
In two separate incidents of gold smuggling , security officials have recovered gold of over 2 kgs from two airline passengers.
In the first instance, officers from the air intelligence unit at Tiruchirapalli airport in Tamil Nadu seized 977 grams of 24k gold valued at Rs 70.58 lakh from a passenger who had come from Dubai.
Authorities reported that the gold was hidden in three packets with 1081 grams of paste-like material inside the passenger’s rectum. The passenger was traveling from Dubai to Trichy on the Air India Express. They have been detained, and additional investigation is currently in progress.
In another incident, customs officers at Chennai airport found 1.25 kg of gold, which is valued at Rs 85 lakh, in a lavatory at the arrival lounge of the international terminal.
