Gujarat: Liquor seized from milk truck, one held
According to the police, a team of Local Crime Branch (LCB) Gandhinagar intercepted an Amul milk truck and a pilot four-wheeler vehicle on the Sonipur Kolvada road in Gandhinagar Saturday.
Police in Gandhinagar seized over 7,000 bottles of illicit Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) being smuggled in an “Amul” milk truck Saturday and arrested one accused.
According to the police, a team of Local Crime Branch (LCB) Gandhinagar intercepted an Amul milk truck and a pilot four-wheeler vehicle on the Sonipur Kolvada road in Gandhinagar Saturday.
Police said a total of 7,668 IMFL bottles worth Rs 9 lakh was allegedly found from the Amul truck. “Based on specific input, a team of LCB, headed by police inspector JH Sindhav, intercepted an Amul truck and a four-wheeler piloting it on the Sonipur Kovada road. We have managed to apprehend one accused–Kalpesh Vaghela, an Ahmedabad resident –from the truck. Vaghela told us that an accused named Sonu Sindhi from Shahibaug had smuggled the IMFL from Rajasthan and the accused were bringing it to Ahmedabad in the Amul truck. Sindhi is wanted in the prohibition case now. A total of 7,668 bottles, consisting of whiskey and beer, have been seized from the truck. Further investigation is on in the case,” said a senior police official.

The BOC seized a total of P545.06 million in agricultural products, mostly rice, onion and garlic, from operations it conducted from January to September.
Only three commodities accounted for nearly 83 percent of the value at P452.28 million, namely, rice (P206.8 million), onion (P190.48 million) and garlic (P55 million).
The BOC filed 14 lawsuits before the Department of Justice in a bid to punish 41 individuals involved in the smuggling of farm goods. The agency said these importers and brokers tried to smuggled P85.2 million worth of agricultural products into the domestic market.

Ahmedabad: Three arrested with Rs 3.2 lakh in fake notes
AHMEDABAD: Three persons, including a woman, were arrested from CTM for possessing counterfeit currency notes, with a face value of Rs 3.21 lakh. The notes were of Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 denominations.
One of the accused, Vikesh Vaniyar, a resident of Khokhra, tried to commit suicide by strangling himself, but was rescued. The two other accused were identified as Surendranagar resident Mitesh Vaghela and Ahmedabad resident Alka Joshi.
The three had 242 notes of Rs 500 and 100 notes of Rs 2,000. The cops also recovered Rs 1,700 in genuine notes from them. DCP Achal Tyagi said the the three accused brought the counterfeit notes from Salem in Tamil Nadu at the request of two people from the city. He said teams will be sent to Tamil Nadu for probe as they have not got evidence that the notes were printed in Gujarat.
“We are matching the quality of notes with those seized in Odisha,” he said. He said fake notes with a face value Rs 15 lakh were seized in Odisha in August, and were found to have been printed there.

The arrests were made over the weekend, after the police intercepted an Andhra Pradesh registered vehicle that eventually led them to the gang housed in a rented accommodation at Sathya Sai Nagar near Tamil Nadu Housing Board on Rayakottai road here.
According to the police, a car was intercepted near Rayakottai underbridge here following a tip-off that a gang was roaming around the town conning people into parting with their money on the promise that the money would be doubled through sorcery using a metal pot.
Upon interrogation of three persons, later named accused, L.Ganesan (38) of Karaikudi, V.Ramesh (52) and R.Imran Khan (30) of Andhra Pradesh in the car, police were led to a rented accommodation near Tamil Nadu Housing Board.

Delhi Police recovers huge quantity of duplicate products, one held
Duplicate products of reputed companies were seized by the Delhi Police and one person was arrested.
After conducting a raid, Delhi Police recovered a huge quantity of duplicate products of reputed companies from the Wazirabad area. One person was arrested.
The raid was conducted after a complaint was filed by Krishan Gopal of Brand Protection Services Pvt Ltd.
Duplicate products of Colgate Palmolive (435 pcs), Sun Pharma Ltd. (564 pcs Volini spray), Bajaj Consumer Ltd. (Bajaj Oil 1,40,000 pouch of 2.5ml) Reckitt Benckiser Ltd (500 pcs Lizol, Harpic 1,700 pcs), ITC company (Set Wet perfume 300 pieces), were recovered from a house near Almobia Masjid, Wazirabad.
During the interrogation, the accused, identified as Mohd Tazeen, a resident of Girdharpur village, Bareilly, UP, said that he brought the products from a local market in the Eastern Delhi area.

Mizoram: ₹54 lakh worth areca nuts and foreign cigarettes seized
Assam Rifles and Customs Department of the state seized 180 bags of Areca Nuts and 14 cases of Foreign Cigarettes in a joint operation.
Assam Rifles busted another smuggling racket in the region on October 9. The force recovered 180 bags of Areca Nuts approximately costing Rs 34,34,400.
The bags were seized in Mizoram’s Champhai Road at the General Area Melbuk after the Assam Rifles received a tip-off.
Additionally, 14 cases of foreign cigarettes were also recovered worth Rs 19,99,400 from Champhai district’s Chhungte area.
The total cost of both the Areca Nuts and Foreign Cigarettes is Rs 54,33,800 and both operations were carried out by a joint team of Assam Rifles and Customs Department.

Ulhasnagar: Banned cigarettes worth over Rs 54 lakh seized; one held
THANE: The police have seized banned imported cigarettes worth Rs 54.31 lakh and arrested a person for stocking the contraband in Ulhasnagar town of Thane district, police said on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, the police raided a general store in the town on Thursday and seized a stock of banned cigarettes, senior inspector Krishna Kokni of the Crime Branch Unit I of the city police said.
The police have arrested Jitendra alias Jhonny Makhija, the owner of the shop and also raided a godown where he stored the banned product, he said.
Apart from the imported cigarettes, the accused also stocked Indian cigarettes, which had no statutory warning labels on them, the official said, adding that the seized stock was manufactured in Korea, Switzerland, Indonesia and London.
An offence under relevant sections of the IPC and COPTA Act have been registered against the arrested accused with the Central police station of Ulhasnagar zone, the official said.

Smuggled cigarettes valued at P5M seized in Zamboanga City
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Zamboanga del Sur—Close to P5 million of smuggled cigarettes loaded in two boats were intercepted in the waters of Manalipa village here on Friday afternoon by police operatives.
olonel Rexmel Reyes, Zamboanga City police director, said the anti-smuggling operation was led by the 2nd City Mobile Force “Seaborne” Company together with the Bureau of Customs.
According to Reyes, the two motorized watercraft locally known as “jungkong” were reportedly from Jolo, Sulu and supposedly bound for Cotabato City when intercepted by authorities.
These were loaded with a total of 137 master cases of assorted brands of smuggled cigarettes, estimated to be valued at P4.795 million.
Reyes said not one of the eight crew was able to show them the documents pertaining to the shipment.
The two watercraft, AZ-ZHAHIR and MF/V Mernalyn-2 are currently held by the Bureau of Customs along with the eight crew who were identified as Sublaiman Kahal Hali, 22; Nurhusin Nadduha Habi, 28; Abdilsa Allus Ottok, 22; Nasri Habi Kayeh, 27; and Saniboy Kahal Habi, 17, all residents of Lantawan, Basilan; and Minajar Alaji Nawadi, 34; Kennedy Aliuddin Nawadi, 41; and Epik Nawadi Alli, all residents of Barangay Talon-talon, Zamboanga City.

Man from Uttar Pradesh held: Illicit liquor worth Rs 40 lakh seized
Police said the accused, Arvind Yadav (25), was carrying the liquor from Mehsana to Ahmedabad in a truck.
The Gujarat CID Crime seized illicit Indian Made Foreign Liquor worth Rs 40 lakh at the Adalaj highway in Gandhinagar Thursday and arrested a man from Uttar Pradesh. Police said the accused, Arvind Yadav (25), was carrying the liquor from Mehsana to Ahmedabad in a truck.
“The accused told us that he was supposed to deliver the consignment to Ahmedabad and based on specific intelligence, we intercepted and detained the vehicle. Another accused, Rajubhai from Palanpur, is absconding,” stated Gujarat CID Crime.

The crime branch sleuths received information on October 7 about Jitendra alias Johnny Makhija dealing in Indian and imported cigarettes at his Sainath general store, Ulhasnagar in Thane. The team was headed by crime branch unit 1 senior police inspector Krishna Kokane along with his team. Even after being banned and prohibited from selling, Makhija was dealing with the same. The team raided his store to find cigarettes, including those made in Korea, Switzerland, Indonesia, and made in London.
A case has been registered at the Central police station in Ulhasnagar under section 188 of the Indian penal code and relevant section of the Cigarette and other Tobacco Products Act, 2003.
