The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Mumbai has arrested two foreigners on Thursday for allegedly trying to smuggle foreign origin gold worth nearly Rs 19 crore into India. The accused foreigners were trying to smuggle gold by concealing them in specially made customised waist belt.
DRI acted on specific intelligence and intercepted two passengers who arrived at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International airport from Dubai via an Emirates flight.
The two passengers–Salem Abdulla Alshamshi, 33, an UAE national and Alshamshi Abdullah Hmed, 38, from Oman–were nabbed near the exit gate after they crossed customs green channel, sources said.
