BULANDSHAHR: A team of Noida police raided a discount sale organized in Noida Haat on Sunday and seized duplicate branded garments worth lakhs of rupees, and arrested a couple, said police officials on Monday.
According to police, the arrested persons were identified as Siddharth Gakhar (30) and his wife Ekta (28), both residents of Tilak Nagar in New Delhi.
Garments worth lakhs of rupees including pants, T-shirts, shorts and shirts with famous brand names – Peter England, Allen Solly, Van Heusen, etc., were seized.
The raid was conducted by the police in association with Brands Protectors of India, a Gurgaon-based legal organisation that coordinates with security agencies in anti-counterfeit operations across states.
“After three months of social media search and inspection by our team, we came across the gangs who were selling counterfeit garments,” said Dhirendra Singh, director, Brand Protectors of India.
“The gang would source cheap garments from Delhi, Ludhiana and Tamil Nadu and sell them at discounted prices after using logos of top brands. They operate an Instagram account @brandtimeindia to promote and advertise such discount sales of counterfeit branded garments in different cities, along with a social media group to sell duplicate branded garments. They sold the garments at half the price of the original ones and were in business for the past 2 years,” Singh added.
