Most of the youngsters these days prefer clothes of branded companies. This has led to a steep proliferation of fake products which are being sold in the name of reputed brands. In one such case of forgery, Bolangir Police on Wednesday arrested a garments wholesaler on the charges of dealing and selling duplicate clothes of branded companies.
The accused has been identified as Rakesh Rakhani. Sources said that the accused was allegedly selling duplicate clothes of brands like Levis and Calvin Klein. The accused was arrested after a company official from Mumbai lodged a formal complaint with the police yesterday in connection with such duplicate clothes.
Senior police officials said that a raid was conducted on the godown after the complaint.
“We have seized around 500 track pants and over 800 pairs of jeans and other products worth Rs 43 lakh during the raid. The accused has been booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 420, 471 and Sections 51 and 63 of the Copyright Act. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused used to procure the duplicate products from Raipur. Further investigation in this connection is underway,” said a senior police officials.
