Mumbai: The Mumbai airport customs busted a gold smuggling racket and arrested Sohail Sendole
(24), an airport employee, passenger Mushahid Akhtar Ansari (41), and the manager of a fast food joint at the airport, Tabrez Shaikh (23), for aiding and abetting the gold smuggling syndicate to smuggle 1.5 kg of gold worth Rs 1.05 crore.
Customs officials, on Tuesday, intercepted Ansari who arrived from Dubai. “He went near the prayer
hall under the pretext of charging his mobile phone, and Sohail joined him. Later, we realised that Ansari handed over some packet to Sohail, who kept it in the pocket of his trouser and walked. Our officials cornered Sohail and carried out a thorough check and found him in possession of 1,530 grams of gold dust in wax form worth Rs 1.05 crore,” said an official.
