Gold worth Rs 96 lakh seized at Hyderabad airport
The customs officials on Saturday seized gold bars and jewellery worth Rs 96 from a woman who arrived from Dubai at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad.
The gold bars weighed 1.4 kg (worth Rs 67 lakh) and the jewellery weighed 593.55 (worth Rs 28.2 lakh) were found in the woman’s baggage during a routine customs check. The customs officials seized the smuggled goods under the provisions of the customs act, 1962 and further investigation has been launched.
A week ago, the foreign currency of Rs 33 lakh was seized by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) from a passenger trying to fly to Sharjah from the Hyderabad airport. The currency comprised US dollars, Omani Riyal, Saudi Riyal and Qatari Riyal.
