VIJAYAWADA: Customs officers in Kakinada, under the purview of the Commissionerate of Customs (Preventive) Vijayawada, successfully seized 1.8 million sticks of illicit foreign cigarettes valued at Rs 90 lakh.
The interception occurred when two vehicles, arriving from Patna and transporting smuggled foreign brand cigarettes, were stopped near Rajanagarm on NH-16.
The inspection revealed 900,000 sticks of Paris brand cigarettes and an equal quantity of Gold Vimal brand cigarettes in the vehicles. The officials impounded the cigarettes due to transportation without the payment of custom duties. Ongoing investigations are underway to delve deeper into the matter.
