A Sri Lankan national and a Tamil Nadu resident were held by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj international airport in Mumbai for their alleged involvement in the smuggling of eight kilograms of gold worth Rs 4.18 crore. The two have been handed over to the customs department for further investigation.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammed Hiras, a resident of Ramanathpuram, Tamil Nadu, and Mohammed Rusaith Ahmed from Sri Lanka.
Sources said that on Tuesday, CISF officials apprehended Hiras while he was collecting a black sling bag thrown by an internal flight passenger near the domestic boarding gate 46. He and another international passenger were guided by Ahmed.
