AHMEDABAD: A team from Ahmedabad rural police’s local crime branch (LCB) on Wednesday seized an LPG tanker in which 21,084 bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 48.33 lakh were being smuggled into Gujarat, and arrested two men. The vehicle was stopped near Bagodara on the Ahmedabad-Rajkot highway.
In his FIR with Bagodara police, ASI Dilip Gajendrasinh said the team was tipped off that a large consignment of liquor was being smuggled in from Rajasthan in an LPG tanker.
The team intercepted the tanker, with a Nagaland numberplate, near Jay Bhole weigh bridge on Bagodara-Rajkot highway. Checks revealed IMFL bottles inside the tanker.
Police arrested the driver Kanwarram Jat, 25, and his assistant Balaram Kasania, 22.
Jat told police that his friend Jaydeep Singh, a truck driver from Badmer, introduced him to Anil Pandya, a liquor trader from Rajasthan who assigned him the task of smuggling liquor into Gujarat. Jat, was paid Rs 50,000 for every trip, and had delivered consignments to Chotila twice.
