Police in Maharashtra’s Palghar district seized illegal tobacco products valued at more than Rs 15 lakh and arrested one person in connection with the haul, an official confirmed on Friday.
The seizure took place on Wednesday in the Talasari area. Acting on a tip-off, a patrolling team suspected the transportation of illegal goods and stopped a tempo parked along a service road on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway. Upon inspection, the officers discovered a large quantity of banned tobacco products.
Palghar Rural Superintendent of Police, Balasaheb Patil, stated that the seized tobacco products were worth Rs 15.66 lakh. The police also confiscated the tempo involved in the illegal transport and arrested the driver.
