In a significant operation, custom officials at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi have intercepted a large consignment of iphones valued at Rs 32.61 lakhs. The devices totalling 36 iphones were cleverly concealed inside boxes used typically used for liquor. The seizure was made from two Indian nationals who had just arrived from hongkong.
The enforcement action was taken under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. This development comes as a result of targeted profiling and surveillance by customs authorities at the airport. The intercepted iPhones were intended for illicit import into the country, disguised within the packaging of alcoholic beverages.
Following the seizure, investigations have been intensified to unearth further details regarding the smuggling operation and identify any potential accomplices or networks involved in this illegal activity.
