Visakhapatnam: Vizianagaram town police said they busted a counterfeit currency note racket with the arrest of two people. The team led by inspector Korada Ramana Rao of Two Town police station seized fake currency notes of 500 denomination with face value of over 15 lakh. The accused were identified as Bangari Chakradhar alias Chakri (36) of YSR Nagar and Rajana Vishnu (32) of Gadasam village under Dattirajeru mandal.
Chakri is a rowdy-sheeter and accused in two rape cases in the past.
Vizianagaram DSP, R Govinda Rao said based on credible information about the circulation of fake currency in Gumchi locality in the town, police raided the spot. “Both accused were nabbed and 100 fake currency notes of 500 denomination were seized from them,” the DSP said.
During interrogation, they confessed that they had procured fake currency notes worth over ₹15.5 lakh from one Chandramani Paul of Katiya village of Jajpur district of Odisha by paying him 3 lakh genuine currency. Police later raided Chakri’s residence and seized fake currency worth 15 lakh. During his days as remand prisoner, he met Paul in Vizianagaram jail and they decided to join hands.
