Woman among four nabbed for liquor smuggling, bottles seized.
The police have arrested four persons, including a woman, and booked three others for smuggling liquor.
The Focal Point police made a rich haul of smuggled liquor when in a successful raid conducted on a tip-off, a fruit vendor was nabbed near the Jugiana level crossing at Gobindgarh village and 38 cases (456 bottles) of different brands of smuggled liquor were recovered from his possession. The arrested man has been identified as Ram Ishwar, a resident of Aujla da Vehra in Gobindgarh village. Sub-Inspector Bhupinder Singh, who made the arrest, said the suspect was selling liquor under the cover of a fruit cart (rehri) near the level crossing. A case under sections 61/1/14 of the Excise Act has been registered and further investigation was on.
In another case, the police have arrested Santosh Kumar, a resident of Dhandari Khurd, and made a recovery of 35 bottles of smuggled whisky from his possession. He has been booked under sections 61//1/14 of the Excise Act.
